ABSTRACT

The perception of women at Agbado market in Alagbado Lagos, on the use of intrauterine contraceptive device and other methods as a means of family planning. Intrauterine contraceptives device is an object made of plastic, stainless steel of flexible polythene nylon which is inserted into the uterus to prevent pregnancy.

This is a description of the use of contraceptives for family planning, mainly on intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCD) among the market women in Agbado market, Alagbado, Lagos state, Nigeria. The study shows the problems such as level of awareness, religion constraints, and husband’s perspectives etc. Some of the advantages and disadvantages of IUCD are also elaborated over other methods of family planning. The objective of this study is to aim at evaluating the perception of contraceptives usage to determine the prevalence of contraceptives among the women of childbearing age. The population of this study comprises of the market women using family planning methods with emphasis on women using IUCD and are about 200 women but 100 was achieved at Agbado market, Alagbado, Lagos Nigeria.
